Swizzle wizzle wizzle

Swizzles! My absolute favorite. There are so many different ways to work with swizzles and utilize them to gain power. I put a high emphasis on swizzles for all my skaters for several reasons. 1. They require strong deep knee and ankle bend to gain power. 2. They force you to keep your eyes off your toes. 3. The edges from swizzles can then be incorrported into pumps, cross overs, and tight turns.

For my younger students starting with swizzles is difficult because it's an uncommon uncomfortable movement, however the visualization of getting their feet to make a circle around the animals helps them learn to swizzle.

Alot of the things I talk about with my older players challenges them to see how powerful they can make there swizzles from goal line to red line, and then beat the number of swizzles they did on the way back.

Getting technique over power first is so important. My emphasis on forward swizzles starts with heels together, they must be in a V shape, and end with toes together. Whether the swizzle is incompleted for not those 2 steps before and after the swizzle drill the muscle memory of the feet coming together each time.
